Britney Gets Religion

Britney Spears has gone from Christianity to Kabbalah and back (with one rumored stop-over in Islam) so many times, it's hard to keep track! But whether she goes to church, temple or the Kabbalah Center for her higher power, no one can deny that religion has always seemed to play a role in her life.Check out our gallery for some classic Britney snaps - including her with the various men who may or may not have influenced her choice of religion at the time!

Lutfi Looks to Oust Britney Commish

Sam Lutfi is getting with the program. He wouldn't mind changing the channel, though.Despite having agreed to an extension of the restraining order mandating he stay away at least 250 yards away from Britney Spears, Lutfi filed a motion Friday objecting to the Los Angeles court commissioner who's presiding over the case. "Sam did agree to a 30-day extension of the restraining order," Lutfi spokesman Michael Sands told E! News on Tuesday. "However, Sam Lutfi is not stipulating to Commissioner [Reva] Goetz. If need be, Lutfi can be heard in front of a Los Angeles Superior Court judge." (View the notice.) Lutfi, who sources have said was involved in the recent effort to get Spears' conservatorship case moved to federal court, would be willing to appear in court on April 16—the temporary restraining order's new expiration date—to state his position. "There's nothing out of the ordinary that Sam is doing," Sands insisted. "No person has to agree to a commissioner hearing the case. A commissioner is not a judge. If need be, and if this is going to go on, unfortunately, then [Lutfi wants it] heard in front of a judge. Basically, I just believe that Sam would like all of this to go away." While a commissioner performs many of the same actions as a judge—a commissioner is also overseeing Spears and Kevin Federline's custody issues—all sides involved have to agree to it. Sands maintains that the continued scrutiny Lutfi has been subjected to since Jamie and Lynne Spears sought to keep him away from their daughter is unfair. "I personally have been in touch with LAPD, mental health experts and paramedics who were at the home the night [Jan. 31] of the UCLA intervention," Sands said. "They all gave Sam Lutfi five stars for orchestrating and participating in getting Britney to UCLA." "I believe that if Sam brought his witnesses to court, need be, it would take the wind out of the conservators' sails," the rep added. "We all should just take it down and just have peace and harmony and everybody be left alone. Let it go away quietly." In her argument in favor of a restraining order, Lynne Spears filed a declaration last month alleging that Lutfi drugged her daughter, "essentially moved into her home" and went to great lengths to control her life. Spears Sparks New Rules at UCLA Medical Center

Last week there were reports that UCLA Medical Center was seriously considering terminating at least 13 employees and suspending another 6 physicians for snooping through Britney Spears' confidential files. Not only has the hospital stood by their word (12 employees were fired) they are also setting new rules and regulations "to enhance patient privacy and confidentiality", reports the Los Angeles Times newspaper. All cell phones and laptops are officially banned from the hospital in order to avoid patient information getting leaked. We're surprised that from the 20+ employees that were caught snooping through her files, there was no juicy information leaked.

Britney To Play Joan Of Arc?

The Mel Gibson-Britney Spears meeting last week was very mysterious. Was it pop fiction? Are they friends? Well apparently they're collaborating on a new movie. Mel wants to recreate the 1928 movie The Passion of Joan of Arc, and thinks Brit is prefect for the part of Joan. The original movie details the last hours of Joan of Arc after she has been captured by the English. It goes through her trial, torturing, and execution. Wonder what made Mel think Brit can pull this off? 2007 was kind of a crazy year for her, but she was being herself, not acting.

Brit's Psych Ward -- No Cells, No Laptops!

The UCLA psych hospital where Britney Spears spent a 5150 stint earlier this year is now officially a cellphone- and laptop-free zone, after patient photos popped up on the 'net.It doesn't look like any of the snaps, which appeared on an unnamed "social networking" site, are of the Britwreck, reports the L.A. Times. Still, the hospital is concerned that even though the psych patients supposedly gave their consent to be photographed, they "might not be well-reasoned or fully competent" enough to know what they were getting themselves into. Dr. Thomas Strouse, the medical director of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, says in a statement that patients will still have access to landlines. The ban actually went into effect March 3, before it was reported that UCLA canned at least 13 workers and suspended six others for snooping in Brit's medical records. The hospital stresses that the two incidents aren't related.

Britney Returns to Mel-ibu

Though Mel "King of Malibu" Gibson was nowhere to be seen, Britney and her family went to Spears' other 'hood last night for an intimate dinner at Paradise Cove Beach Cafe. Britney was joined (and blocked) by her mom, dad, and at least 20 flash-happy photogs.

Brit-Brit's Rocky Mountain Retreat

Heads up, Britney watchers: The troubled pop tart has just been spotted in Colorado — by Stan Marsh and Kyle Broflovski! That’s right — just days after taping an episode How I Met Your Mother — Britney Spears, 27, will make an appearance on South Park.OK, maybe not the real Britney, but that shouldn’t stop fans and foes alike from tuning in to see how the animated Comedy Central series skewers her.
Earlier this week, the network hinted that the episode (airing today at 10 p.m. ET) would reflect the ever-expanding media circus surrounding the often addled single mom:“Britney Spears is trying to get away from it all in the mountains near South Park, Colo., when the boys have a run-in with her. Stan and Kyle get caught up in Britney's celebrity and the never-ending feeding frenzy that follows her wherever she goes.” What we want to know is, will Britney hook up with Kenny?

They Drink Your Milkshake

The Spears family continued in their bid to become the 21st century Beverly Hillbillies last night by popping in to Paradise Cove Beach Cafe in Malibu. On the menu are mouthwatering dishes like Bloody Mary Shrimp Gazpacho (which you know Britney chowed down on), the "Best Lobster Dinner in Town" (that's a direct quote — and we imagine it's Jamie's favorite), Drunken Sterling Salmon (lookin' at you, Lynne) and the Gigantic Iced Seafood Display — fun for the whole family to share!

Sitcom Guy Keeps Scoring Hot Chicks

She followed in the footsteps of one famous blonde, and now she's paving the way for another.
Vanessa Minnillo, who left hosting gigs with MTV and Entertainment Tonight to pursue an acting career, appears on tonight's episode of How I Met Your Mother — too bad Britney Spears stole her thunder!
The 27-year-old, perhaps best known for being Nick Lachey's lady, makes out with Josh Radnor's Ted (above), the same fella that Brit's character falls for on her episode, next week.
At least Vanessa can feel better knowing that Spears is getting her sloppy seconds!

Someone's Pimping Britney's Ride

TMZ has obtained documents in the Britney Spears conservatorship case, and what's clear is that Brit has too many wheels spinning.
The commissioner signed an order giving the co-conservators the power to sell some of Brit's cars. And get this, the Britster owns seven -- count them -- seven cars. According to the documents, the cost of maintaining the vehicles is steep, what with insurance, maintenance and storage costs. The conservators say selling some of the rides "will save substantial expenses to the conservatorship estate."The company that will sell the cars is going to make a sweet 5% commission.

Britney Spears Dines With Parents

Britney Spears joined her mom Lynne and her co-conservator father Jamie for a bite to eat at the Paradise Cove Beach Café in Malibu, California, last night.
The singer, 26, donned a sleeveless white eyelet dress and brown boots for the All-American meal (the menu for the beachfront diner includes seafood and burgers).
After dining, the crew piled into an SUV, with Jamie sitting in the front seat.
Lynne — who recently visited her daughter on the set of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother — threw a red coat over Britney’s head to shield her from photographers. (On Monday, Lynne spent St. Patrick's Day with her grandchildren, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 17 months.)

Britney on a Budget

After years of spending her millions on vacations and dead-of-night shopping sprees, Britney Spears has been put on a tight budget by a team of advisers. "Britney was never worth nearly as much as many thought she was," a source close to the pop diva tells OK! exclusively. "Those figures of $100 million or more were so off the mark." In fact, the best estimate for her net worth is $40 million. Brit's team wants to preserve her fortune so she is comfortable and can support her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, even without any additional income. The source says, "There's going to be some serious belt-tightening." The estimated $100,000 a month she'd spend on entertainment and vacations may be cut to 10% of that, and her $16,000-a-month clothing allowance will get halved. OK! has learned that as of April 1, she will let go of her $30,000-a-month Malibu pad that she hasn't visited in months. Brit's dad, Jamie Spears, cut off her credit cards when he became her conservator. He and attorney Andrew Wallet are in charge of her estate. Her brother, Bryan, and another attorney manage the fund that administers her daily spending. Now, the main financial drain is legal fees, round-the-clock security and medical costs. "It's taken a huge team to bring some normalcy out of the chaos that existed," the source says. "This team will have to be in place for years." The medical team alone usually has seven doctors and therapists. The legal team handles her finances, custody of her kids and the restraining order against Sam Lutfi. "Her legal bills alone could top $1 million this year," another insider familiar with the situation tells OK!.

Spears' friend Lutfi Objects to Court Commissioner

Britney Spears' friend Osama "Sam" Lutfi has filed papers objecting to the Superior Court commissioner assigned to the pop star's conservatorship case.
Lutfi filed the papers Friday, but was not present for a hearing Monday at which Commissioner Reva Goetz extended a temporary restraining order against him until April 16.
His one-sentence filing said: "Please take notice that Osama "Sam" Lutfi will not stipulate to the above-referenced case being heard by Reva Goetz, commissioner presiding, to whom the above-entitled case has been assigned."
The document was signed and indicated Lutfi was representing himself.
Although the document was filed Friday, it did not reach the courtroom in time for Monday's hearing, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said Tuesday.
Parachini said Lutfi can appear in court on April 16 to ask for the case to be reassigned to a judge.
Commissioners perform many of the same duties as judges, but all parties have to agree to a commissioner hearing a case.
Michael Sands, a spokesman for Lutfi, said during the weekend that Lutfi agreed to abide by the terms of the restraining order for another month.
The order directs Lutfi to stay at least 250 yards away from the pop star and her homes.
The order was requested by Spears' mother, Lynne, when Spears was hospitalized on a psychiatric hold at UCLA Medical Center.

Britney’s Atlantic Crossing

Has the serious, intellectual Atlantic magazine gone tabloid?
Sure looks like it. The latest issue has Britney Spears on the cover!
While the magazine usually sticks to brain-challenging stories about politics, the economy and foreign affairs, Ms. Spears may not necessarily be a complete shocker. The mag covers cultural trends, and say what you will about Spears, but the on-her-road-to-a-comeback pop star is definitely a cultural phenomenon.
The story, “The Britney Show,” written by David Samuels, uses the coverage of Spears to show the rise of paparazzi agency X17.
Among the goodies uncovered by Samuels:
Somewhere between 60 and 70 photographers work for X17, and they’re paid anywhere from $800 to $3,000 a week. Paid tipsters include hundreds of parking attendants, club kids and shopgirls.
Teams on any given assignment are given code names. When Samuels was shadowing some of the paps, the group of eight Brazilians following Spears was called MBF, using the first initials of the team’s three leaders. They said they logged over 40,000 hours watching Spears.
X17 estimates its take from the sale of Spears-related images last year to be $3 million, or 25 percent of the company’s entire gross revenue.
Bidding on eBay for a photographer’s Ford Explorer after a bald-headed Spears attacked it with an umbrella hit a high of $40,000 before the shutterbug decided to take it off the market.
And the Atlantic has more. X17 owners Regis and Brandy Navarre will join Samuels, Page Six boss-man Richard Johnson, New York Times writer Virginia Heffernan and tabloid magazine editrix Bonnie Fuller for The Britney Show: The Rise of the 24/7 Celebrity News Cycle, an Atlantic-hosted panel discussion on March 26 at the New York University Graduate School of Journalism.

Lutfi “Respects Britney,” Will Stay Away

Sam Lutfi wants out of the increasingly harsh limelight for awhile.
A court commissioner signed off Monday on the agreement his camp brokered last week with Britney Spears’ family to extend the temporary restraining order against him for another month.
“He respects Britney, he respects the temporary restraining order and everyone is beating him up for no reason,” Lutfi’s rep, Michael Sands, said after the hearing. “Enough is enough.”
Lutfi, who dodged process servers for several weeks after the order was first granted to Jamie and Lynne Spears on Feb. 1, will continue to stay at least 250 yards away from Britney and any property she owns until Apr. 16.
A federal judge had previously extended the order on Feb. 21, the day Lutfi was finally served.
The singer’s erstwhile BFF has been the target of serious accusations from Britney’s parents since her Jan. 31 hospitalization at UCLA Medical Center.
Lynne Spears has alleged that Lutfi drugged Britney by adding crushed, unspecified pills into her food, an issue the Los Angeles Police Department has taken into consideration for a formal investigation. Jamie Spears’ attorneys have stated in court documents that his daughter’s pal hit up her since-fired business manager, Howard Grossman, for money.
Lutfi admitted to giving Britney a handful of pills on Jan. 30, claiming that they “worked wonders” on the troubled songstress, who sources said wasn’t sleeping and was displaying erratic, anxious behavior in the days leading up to her week-long stay at UCLA.
Britney’s medical issues and finances were also discussed Monday, albeit in a closed courtroom.
“Orders were submitted and will be considered about her medical condition, but privacy issues require these remain sealed,” Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told E! News.
A hearing on the 730 psych evaluation Goetz ordered to help determine Britney’s ability to make decisions that are currently under the control of her coconservators has been scheduled for Apr. 17, the day after the court is set to revisit the Lutfi affair.

Britney Ordered To Pay $375K To Federline

(AP) Britney Spears was ordered by a court commissioner Monday to pay ex-husband Kevin Federline $375,000 to cover his attorney fees in their child-custody dispute. Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline's lead attorney, had asked for nearly $500,000. Commissioner Scott Gordon issued the order in response to arguments presented last week.Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline's lead attorney, had asked for nearly $500,000. Commissioner Scott Gordon issued the order in response to arguments presented last week.Spears' attorney Stacy Phillips argued that Kaplan was overbilling and that Federline can pay his own legal bills, but Gordon wrote that Spears' actions led to a great majority of the litigation and delays in the case. Meanwhile, Spears' friend Sam Lutfi agreed to stay away from the pop star for at least another month, delaying a hearing that could have made a restraining order against him permanent. Lutfi and conservators for Spears' estate agreed to have the restraining order extended for 30 days, Lutfi spokesman Michael Sands said Sunday. "There is an agreement between Sam Lutfi and the conservatorship for the next 30 days," Sands said. "Both parties are happy and will continue to work together to further resolve any issues that may have come up in the past." A judge was expected to approve the agreement Monday. Phone messages and e-mails to lawyers for Spears, 26, and her estate co-conservators, which include her father, weren't immediately returned. A Superior Court commissioner last month ordered Lutfi to stay 250 yards from Spears and her home. Spears' mother, Lynne, requested the order based on allegations that Lutfi - Spears' frequent companion and sometime manager - had held the singer hostage in her own home, drugged her and taken over her finances. Spears' father, James, was named one of two co-conservators of her estate after the singer was hospitalized twice in January. The conservatorship has been extended until July 31. Conservatorships are granted for people deemed unable to take care of themselves or their affairs. Before her hospitalization, Spears had shown increasingly erratic behavior. She shaved her head, was seen in public without underwear, ran over a celebrity photographer's foot and attacked a vehicle with an umbrella. Spears has since had very limited contact with her two toddler sons who are under the sole physical and legal custody of Federline.

TV Guide Exclusive: How Mother Got a Piece of Britney

Britney Spears' visit to How I Met Your Mother certainly has brought some quick buzz to the post-strike season. The March 24 issue of TV Guide went behind the scenes to get the scoop on the pop star's surprise sitcom gig; the exclusive cover story with posed Josh Radnor/Brit pic will be on newsstands this week (watch a clip of Britney and Neil Patrick Harris' Barney here).Talking to the Mother cast last Thursday at their return party, it became clear that each wanted a "piece" of her — or, at least, admired the pieces she brought to the show.Jason Segel gushed, "She was just unbelievable. She had her lines memorized, jokes ready, and she killed it. And she's beautiful." Neil Patrick Harris, meanwhile, was surprised that Spears agreed to come on the show at all. "I didn't think she'd have the time to do it," he confessed. "I kept laughing, saying, 'You're serious? She's actually going to do it?'"Adds Alyson Hannigan, "[Britney] was sweet and funny. It was surprisingly normal." For Cobie Smulders, the combo of Brit and the March 24 episode's other big guest star, Sarah Chalke, was anything but toxic. Smulders (like Chalke, a Canuck) said, "Sarah is so funny, so nice, and she's the coolest chick. I know she seems like the coolest chick, but [she really is]."For the inside story on how Britney came to meet Mother, check out the March 24 issue of TV Guide, on newsstands this week. The premiere airs tonight at 8:30 pm/ET on CBS. — Anna Dimond

Neil Patrick Harris: "Britney's Living a Nightmare"

While A-list guest star Britney Spears didn’t make it to the How I Met Your Mother bash at the Palihouse in L.A. this weekend, our spywitness at the event heard plenty of chatter about the troubled pop star’s time on set.The show’s star Neil Patrick Harris said he was surprised that Brit was rather quiet. "When she was with us, she
was rather shy and intimidated," he explained. "Probably
because she doesn't have a lot of acting experience,
 especially sitcom experience."
And as for reports that the 26-year-old mother of two was a nightmare on the set, Neil said, "I wouldn't call her a nightmare. She's living
 one."
While Brit might have been surprisingly quiet around the set, Neil admitted that the hysteria surrounding her even made its way past studio security."When she's on set, it's kind of chaotic, hectic," he explained. "Even though she was quiet and behaved... She brings that energy with her."
